Summary of the 2014 season 07 March 2014 - Atlantic Challenge Golf Day.
Congratulations to Melvin Golf Society Winning the Atlantic Challenge Golf Day. A little luck with a splash of good weather and good golf to booth won on the day. Melvin golf society would like to thank the 99 players from 6 teams i.e. Owen Roes Golf Society, Ballyshannon. Good Time Charlies Golf Society, Bundoran Grange Golf Society, Grange Glendarragh Golf Society, Belleck & Kesh West Ulster Golf Society, Blacklion & Garison For making the occasion a special one. --------------------------------------------------- 28 April 2014 – Eric Gallagher Portloaise outing. A special thanks to all whom turned up at the meeting last Thursday. Please refer to "2014 Tour" for agreed dates on the Captains Day and the Seniors day. Also refer to "other info" for the most update information on the golf trip in October. Could you contact either Anthony Magan or Aidan McGurran if you are interested in going to Eric Gallaghers sponcered outing at the Heritage, Portloaise. We have provisionally booked the 4th of July. Please note the first round of the match play deadline is close approaching. The current matchplay table has no games played to date. Murphy does a double and wins at Dunfanaghy, parable with two birdies in a row. 2nd a man returning to the fold Brian McCarty and captain fantastic Alan Kenny. Knocking on the door Aidan Mc Gurran and Mark Foley. --------------------------------------------------- 02 June 2014 – Farnham Golf With a 8 week wait and if we were to walk Farnham Golf Course we could still be there. Have a look at the photo of us afterwards. Great day's weather the people in the points are 1st Anthony Magan, 2nd David Ronayne, 3rd Eamon McGloin, 4th Fergal McGowan (2013 Golfer of the year) and 5th Alan Kenny (Captain). It will not be as long for the next outing, this Saturday 2 weeks, 21st June @ Ballybofey. See you all then and good luck. --------------------------------------------------- 23 June 2014 At the half way mark to the season and the fight for top of the table is well and truly on. Have the “movers and shakers” gone as far as they can? Great to see a big turn out with Captain Fantastic in pole position Alan Kenny, a nice birthday present as he beats 2nd place Mark Foley on a BOT, 3rd Brendan Mc Gowan, 4th Anthony Magan, 5th Des Mc Gowan. It was agreed the 19th July, Carrick-on-Shannon outing, will be rescheduled. Revised date to be finalised. The Wellington cup is to be played this Friday, 27th June. Tee of at 18:30. Will Melvingolf society make it a double win this year? --------------------------------------------------- 22 July 2014 – Bundoran Stroke The clash of the dates is over. Bundoran Stroke is out of the way for the first time in early fashion. Mark Foley gets “a big nothing” for Bundoran Captains day with a very good score of Net 65 however win’s the day for Melvin Golf Society after been beat on a BOT at Ballybofey. 2nd Eamon McGloin, 3rd Fergal McGowan (Golfer of the year 2013), 4th Brendan McGowan, 5th Anthony Magan. Next is Cavan (Tee off at 11:14am) this Saturday 3 weeks (16th August) hope to see you all there. --------------------------------------------------- 17 Aug 2014 Brewing to be another classic season. This table could topple with the leaders sitting on it, who will be left standing? Great attendance again with 17 competitors, 1st Fergal McGowan (Golfer of the year 2013), 2nd Joe Flannery, 3rd Eamon McGloin, 4th Des McGowan, 5th David Ronayne. Only two more outings left, a top heavy table and enough time for others to make an impact it will make for a great Claremorris (20-Sept) outing. Before then we have our senior’s day (13 Sept) at Bundoran. Please note the revised dates for Sept and Oct, check "Tour Dates". We are having a presentation for the prizes this Thursday, 21st Aug at 9pm the Wellington. Prizes to be collected are for the Ballyfoyey, Bundoran and Cavan outing, again check tour dates. If you can't attend to collect your prize please send a representative. Let’s make it a good night and all be there. Thanks and until then be well and good luck. --------------------------------------------------- 14 Sept 2014 – Senior’s Day Well done to Brian McCarty on winning "Senior's Day", he just won by 1 point over Dan McGloin on a beautiful golf day in Bundoran. See you all at Claremorris this Saturday (20 Sept). Thanks for a great meeting last Thursday. --------------------------------------------------- 20 Sept 2014 - Claremorris It's all down to the last outing with 6 at the top having 10 points and a new man clipping their heels, Richard Nevin, and new kid on the block Dave Ronayne. Who will be triumphant from the Carrick-on-Shannon outing? It could be a Block Buster. The Claremorris outing results are as follows 1st Richard Nevin, 2nd Dan McGloin, 3rd Billy Gavigan, 4th Des McGowan, 5th Jim McGowan. Saturday week (Oct 4th) is "Captain's day" with a meal afterwards in Bundoran Golf Club and then of to the Wellington bar for presentation of prizes. Saturday 2 weeks (Oct 11) is the Carrick-on-Shannon outing, it’s ending with a busy schedule. Commiseration to "Aidan Mc Gurran" who put up a good fight. See you all at Captain's day, 4 October 2014. --------------------------------------------------- 22 Oct 2014 – Captain’s day. Alan Kenny (Captain fantastic) puts on a Great day. Competition type been 4 mystery holes not counting and 2 mystery holes having double scores lead to an interesting day for the markers. Alan would like to thank Fergal McGowan for his assistance with that one and to all others whom gave him a hand. Results on the day; 1st Anthony Magan, 2nd Vincent McGowan, 3rd Brendan McGowan, 4th Jim McGowan. Good to have a few visitors on the day with 1st going to Eamon Maguire and 2nd Gary Morris. --------------------------------------------------- 22 Oct 2014 – What a year. Eight people fighting for golfer of the year in a foggy Carrick-on-Shannon. Reports came in that it even when down to the last few holes for a number of the top 6 leaders. But it’s our new champion’s, Pauric Murphy’s year with three 1st place finishes playing good golf all year and the best man won on the day. 2nd Fergal McGowan (2013 Golfer of the year) whom blanked the last hole to end up 1 point behind Pauric’s score and nearing retaining the title, 3rd Mark Foley whom was beating Pauric score on the front nine holes but not to be on the 2nd nine holes, 4th Dan McGloin and 5th Vincent McGowan. Just like to say thanks to everyone who made this year’s tournament as good as the weather we got. Slan, and see you all at the Final Presentation, Xmas party, and during the Saturday’s golf at Bundoran. --------------------------------------------------- 22 Oct 2014 – Update. Final Presentation Saturday 15th Nov 8:30pm at the Wellington bar. Presentation to given out on the night are for “Carrick-on-Shannon”, “Claremorris”, “Seniors Day”, “Golfer of the year” and “Match play winner”. “Xmas Party” Saturday 6th Dec.
