Congratulations to Melvin Golf Society coming 2nd in the Atlantic Challenge Golf Day on a really bad day where the wind would take the skin off ya. Unfortunately we where beat be Bundoran on the day by 1 point on a recount. Melvin golf society would like to thank the 72 players from 6 teams i.e. Owen Roes Golf Society, Ballyshannon. Good Time Charlies Golf Society, Bundoran Grange Golf Society, Grange Glendarragh Golf Society, Belleck & Kesh West Ulster Golf Society, Blacklion & Garison For making the occasion a special one. --------------------------------------------------- 19 March 2015 – Slieve Russell We are off - Good course and good scores. The results are in with 1st Alan Kenny, Brian McCarty, Billy Gavigan BOT, Anthony Magan and Des McGowan taking up the rear. It will only be Saturday week (28 March) before the next outing - V Par at Bundoran Golf Club. Understanding V Par scoring is under "Other info". The match play is now up, we have a lot on the preliminary round. Very interesting draw. Des has the hard job of referring. Melvin golf society would like to congratulate "51st Street" on winning the Atlantic Challenge Cup, hope you look after it as good as we did. --------------------------------------------------- 30 March 2015 – Bundoran (V-Par) The new addition of V-Par went off with great success in Bundoran. On a very windy day the result showed 1st Brendan McGowan (Chairman), 2nd Anthony Magan, 3rd Aidan McGurran, 4th Vincent McGowan, and 5th David Ronayne. Mister motivated Brendan also beat Des on their preliminary round of the match play. Vincent got one over on Dan on the 18 to pass onto the 2nd round of the match play. Things are moving fast for the start of the season as we only have to wait this Saturday two weeks before we head of to Dunfanaghy (Sat 18th April). Good luck to every one for that one and until then. --------------------------------------------------- 21 April 2015 – Dunfanaghy On a beautiful day in a land far, far way there was Dunfanaghy. Some of us just made it while others had other engagements unfortunately but that did stop big score coming in on the day. 1st Jim McGowan with an impressive 42pts is back after a 5 year wait, 2nd David Ronayne who had an impressive 14 par on the day (Great golf from someone who only played the course last year for the first time), 3rd is our new member and with only his first away outing Kevin McGrogan, 4th is now the table leader with 8pts Anthony Magan, and his golf companion 5th Dan McGloin. It was also nice to see so many turn up on the day and guest Gerry Kelly. The match play is struggling with a few games in the preliminary round. Please play the games at your earliest convenience, thanks. The next outing is Saturday week (02nd May) senior’s day. Can Brian McCarty hold onto one of the major of the year? There is also a junior prize for the day. So until then may the good weather never leave us? --------------------------------------------------- 21 May 2015 With just a month on from our Dunfanaghy outing and how things can change. Great to see a good turn out even when 11 of us couldn’t make it due to other reasons, me been one of those. Hence can’t tell you much about the day but its defiantly change the landscape of the Leaderboard with 1st Aidan McAleer (Well done after such a long wait), 2nd Aidan McGurran (Another man whom had to wait a long time to see the winning enclosure, Again well done), 3rd Gerry Kelly, 4th Alan Kenny and 5th Billy Gavigan. We would also like to congratulate our new member Gerry Kelly whom wasn’t dazed and finished up 3rd on the day. First Presentation of the season is to be in the Wellington Bar this Saturday (23rd May) at 9pm. The presentation is for the last 4 outings. The Trip to Spain Details have changed , "Benalmadena Costa Del Sol 11th Oct- 16Oct" Next outing is already near us, this Saturday two weeks (6th June) at Ballinrobe with tee off at 11:40. --------------------------------------------------- 09 June 2015 – Ballinrobe The stretch is on, at the half way mark. Ballinrobe treated us like Kings. The course was in excellent condition, the breakfast and dinner was great, got a bit wet on the first few holes and then worked out to be a lovely day for all with the following results. 1st Alan Kenny, 2nd Jim McGowan, 3rd Anthony Magan, 4th Aidan McGurran, 5th Richard Nevin. Cristy Barry fought well but Aidan McGurran came on top in a tough fought battle. Well done. We are all invited to PJ Rouse’s party at the Wellington this Friday (13th June). Well done all. --------------------------------------------------- 26 June 2015 – News News just in. The 6th outing location has changed from New-Town-Steward to Tubbercurry. We would like to welcome our new president Fergal McGowan and wish him a good year. He is to come back to us with a date for president day. We have a new impatient Matchplay referee, Brendan McGowan whom noted a few matchplay games are behind and would like them played as soon as possible. Our treasure would like to receive all outstanding subscriptions to be able to afford prizes. --------------------------------------------------- 17 July 2015 – Tubbercurry The spirits weren’t damped on a wet day in Tubbercurry. On a lovely nine hole course where at a breakfast we taught we were served by our mother, couldn’t do enough for us. Golf on a course in excellent condition. Soap and sandwicks afterwards where you couldn’t eat enough. Gives an all round great day out. Thank you Tubbercurry Golf Club. The results from a high scoring day was 1st Aidan McGurrran and now new number one on the leaderboard, 2nd David Ronayne (BOT) both with a very good score of 38 points, 3rd Eamon McGloin, 4th Jim McGowan and Brain McCarty bring up the rear. Leading to an interesting outing at Castle Dargen. The Matchplay is now moving nicely with all games having interesting match ups. A few photos have been added to the photo album from the Tubbercurry outing please peruse. Since our last outing a competition has been arranged between MelvinGolf and Swimford Golf Society at our Claremorris outing. Best 8 cards counting between each team. On a far well note, a special thanks to Richard Nevin whom set up the MelvinGolf Society facebook page. Photos you would like to have on this web site please upload them onto this facebook page and we will take it from there. Good luck and enjoy the summer golf. --------------------------------------------------- 14/09/2015 After a bit of a break. At the last Stand and who is there? There is five people with a possibility of winning the 2015 Melvin Golf Society Golfer of the year. 10 golfers fought it out for that position in Clarmorris and the results are, 1st Dan McGloin who played great golf on the day, 2nd is the man with a great year at golf Alan Kenny and now join leader with 18 points, 3rd creeping up the board and now gets to play in the final four ball of the last outing Anthony Magan, 4th is the man with the new clubs just begin to kick in Richard Nevin, 5th is the one and only Eamon McGloin whom with David Ronayne is doing a great job at the handicap committee. A word of thanks to Claremorris for a course in great condition even with the heavy rain fall we were getting up to the outing. The Breakfast was more than we could eat. Sorry I didn’t get to write about Castle Dargin, as I also taught it is equally good a course even with the one sausage breakfast and a toaster that does two slices of toast for 18 dinners. Our next outing will be Captains Day at Bundoran Golf Club on the 26th September tee off at 11am. God only knows what Billy will have cooked up for us that day. Just hope we get good weather and his guest are equally as nice. I a final note I would like to congratulate all the winners from the society who won competitions at Bundoran Golf Club during August. It was an outstanding month with Jerry Kelly winning two competitions, Fergal McGowan winning another, the team of Aidan McGurran and David Ronayne winning a v-par competition with an outstanding 10 points and Dave Webb who won a competition sponsored by our own Mark Foley. Good bye until the next outing. --------------------------------------------------- This year has been an exceptional year with Melvingolf members winning in other competitions i.e. G. Fagan, Bundoran Golf Club – Gerry Kelly McCaffrey's, Bundoran Golf Club – Gerry Kelly Great Northern, Bundoran Golf Club – Gerry Kelly Northwest Floors, Bundoran Golf Club – Fergal McGowan Belleek, Bundoran Golf Club – Dan McGloin President's Day – Brendan McGowan Cosgroves (4 Ball Better Ball) – David Ronayne and Aidan McGurran Spring League – David Ronayne and Eamon McGloin West Coast Challenge – In 40 years this competition has been ran from Bundoran Golf club with no one from Bundoran Golf winning it until now.
