Summary of 2018 Season

Feb 2018
Welcome one and all. Our new season will be getting under way on 24 Feb at Murvagh. I think we are heading there because of last year's golfer of the year, Bobby O'Shea. He's a member there, hope he got us a deal. I would like to welcome our new members with a tip, "It ant easy".

27 Feb 2018
It’s GREAT to get another year off with no rain and to be fit and healthy to enjoy it. Well done to one and all on a cold, sunny day in Murvagh. The results are in from the 18 competitors, 1st Vincent McGowan, 2nd Dan McGloin, 3rd Alan Kenny, 4th Brian McCarthaigh. Everyone else who turned up on the day gets 2 points.
The match play draw was taken on the day and the results are on the match play section of this website. The Referee wants the match play to be played off the blue markers at Bundoran.  Des has the coin on the ready.
The race for Golfer of the year is well and truly back on. Best of luck with our next outing on the 24th March at Dunfanaghy.

27 Mar 2018
Who taught it could be so hot on the 24th Mar. The McGowan brothers shun the most with some great scores. Results are as follows, 1st Des McGowan (44pts), 2nd Jim McGowan (43pts), Brendan McGowan (41pts) and 4th Anthony Magan (39pts).
Congratulations to the first man through to the quarterfinals of the match-play with Alan Kenny winning his round over Christy Barry 4&3. If there are any more updates on the match-play please let me know, thanks.
Congratulations to all the members of MelvinGolf who won a price at Bundoran Champagne Scramble on 7th March. Well done to the event organisers of which our fellow member David Ronayne is a member off. Special congratulations to Pauric Murphy, Eamon McGloin, Billy Gaviagan and Sean Cullintan on winning some knives.
Melvingolf Society would like to thank Dunfanaghy and their staff for a great day out.
Let’s hope the weather is as hot as the scores at Dunfanaghy during our next outing at BlackLion, 14th April. Hope to see you all there.
Remember “As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way.”

20 Apr. 18
They say things come in threes. With your third wet course this year we hope it’s our last. No pressure for our Stabane outing on the 12th of May.
The leader board as it stands is very top heavy with all society members still able to win golfer of the year. The results are as follows 1st Anthony Magan, 2nd Eugene McMurrow (BOT), 3rd Eamon McGloin, and 4th Vincent McGowan.
No information to give on match-play.
Congratulations to this month’s society winners of competitions at Bundoran Golf Club.

He, who has never made the first spelling mistake or grammar mistake, throw the first stone/ ball.

14 May, Ballybofey
Ballybofey is a good test of keeping it between the trees and getting onto the green in two on the long par 4's. Resulting in the low handicapers climbing the table. 1st Eamon Carty, 2nd Aidan McGurran, 3rd Dave Ronayne, 4th Mason Collins.
No update on the match-play. Des has the coin ready for those whom are still in the preliminary round.
President's day (Jim McGowan) date has changed to Sat 26th May at Bundoran, tee off at 11:30. Format to be confirmed on the day. Jim is giving nothing away on the format. Best of luck on your day Jim. Richard will have the President's cup spit polished and ready to hand over to whom ever wins.

14 June, Claremorris. The half way mark.
I would like start by thanking our President, Jim McGowan for a glorious day at bundoran golf club. Great turn out on the day and I'm sure he had a little chuckle when his good friend whom only played golf few time in the last 2 years won. Congratulations to Pauric Murphy, Jim asked if you could keep the President's cup well polished for next year.
Now on to the main business of golf of the year. The results for Claremorris are as follows - 1st Brendan McGowan, 2nd Billy Gavigan, 3rd Dan McGloin and 4th Aidan McGurran. Well done all. The leader board will show that any one can win. So far people whom are in the top 3 of each outing have not won twice with Claremorris having no exception.
Matchplay, The first round must be completed by the 17th June. Referee will toss a coin thereafter to find out whom gets through to the next round.
I would like to remind you that our next outing is on 23rd June, Brendan McGowan’s Captain’s day.
Good luck and remember enjoy this weather while we are getting it. Golf Onn.

23 July, Tubbercurry Outing.
TubberCurry Golf Club doesn’t disappoint each time we have an outing there. Melvin Golf Society would like to thank TubberCurry Golf Club for their hospitality on adding to a great day’s golf. Playing the golf course you can see the Greens Convenor takes great pride in their work. The results are as follows 1st Richard Nevin, 2nd Dave Ronayne, 3rd Mich Condron , 4th Eamon McGloin.
To our captain Brendan McGowan thank's for a great day on the 23 June. You really make a great effort with the prizes. Above and beyond the call of duty. The good weather as well helped.
No update on the match-play.
We all wish Billy Gavigan the best of recovery from a broken bone in his foot.
Next outing is on the 25 Aug in Castlehume.

28 Aug, Castlehume Outing.
CaslteHume only up the road gets 16 people on the day. By all accounts good scoring on the day with a very popular winner in Christy Barry, 2nd Eamon Carty, 3rd Aidan McGurran, 4th Alan Kenny. This leaves Aidan McGurran in the lead surrounded with a chasing pack. Three outing left and only two counting towards golfer of the year it  leaves a very exciting close to the season.
Next outing is Senior's & Junior day at Bundoran this Saturday, 1st Sept tee at 09:00.
No update on the match-play.

20 Sep, Bundoran Outing.
Bundoran outing the results are as follows - 4th Des McGowan, 3rd, Eamon McGloin, 2nd Aidan McGurran, 1st Eugene McMurrow.  It looks like Aidan McGurran has it all rapped up but there is a possible play off once the score is tally at the end of the year. Watch this space.
Match play up to date. WE are into the quarter finals.
Swinford this week end the 29 September hope to see you all there.

03 Nov, Bundoran Outing.
20 years in the making, with a tear and a few good memories we say good bye to another season.  The day's weather was great with another great turn out of 19 competitors. The results of the last outing of the year are as follows - 4th Fergal McGowan (Thanks of sponsoring the 4th prize all year), 3rd Aidan McGurran (took 20 years in the making but this result get's him across the line to become Golfer of the Year 2018), 2nd James Keenan (did get to many outings this year but made this one count, 1st Mick Condron (Great score to beat the hunting pack).
Like to congratulate our long standing member of 20 years Aidan McGurran on winning golfer of the year with two 2nd places and two third places followed with one 3rd place. Giving him a healthy 9 point lead over his next competitor Eugene McMurrow. 2nd place Eugene well done on your first year with the society. 3rd place goes two Brendan McGowan.
Match-play is still in the quarter final stage, hope to have it finished before the next season starts.
Our Christmas party is on Sat 15th December. Day is lining up to be a great day with Golf in the morning, refreshments at the club house or getting dolled up sit down for meal at 17:30 with a local link back to Kinlough to finish the night off.
